Titolo inglese: Knaves of Heart.

According to Jacques Audiberti, this film was the prologue to Autant-Lara's Le Rouge et le Noir.
Adapted from the novel of Louis Hémon, script written by Hugh Mills and Raymond Queneau.
Monsieur Ripois, a Frenchman in London during the war, courts his wife's best friend, telling her all about his gallant adventures, while his wife, fed up with all his infidelity, has asked for a divorce. A portrait of a cynical and childish, cruel and irresponsible Don Juan who does not even love love itself. It is a film with a distinct perfection, the result of a fusion of two civilizations, France and England, wit and humor. A balanced dialogue, superb technical contributions (the cinematography of Oswald Morris, the music of Roman Vlad), an impressive setting, and perhaps the best and most subtle performance by G. Philipe. It is difficult to label: a costume comedy? A satire? An exercise in style? Morality disguised as ballet? A reflection on the solitude in the big city? The English title: Knaves of Heart.
