The pool player Eddie Felson must absolutely defeat the champion Minnesota Fats, and in his obsession for the game and for victory at any cost, he discovers that he has sacrificed the only thing constant in his life, his love for a girl who is too delicate. A dark and anxious existential parable, between film noir and an almost documentary style, that is perhaps Robert Rossen's most celebrated film.
